Allen & Heath’s Xone series tend to stick around for a long time, and that proved to be the case with their previous 23 and 23C entry-level mixers. They’ve finally received an update, though, with the 24 and 24C, which feature the same kind of analogue sound, but with a more up-to-date feature set. The same applies to the K3, the new addition to the company’s beloved K series of controllers, so Mojaxx reviews both on the new episode of Beatsource Tech. Check out Mojaxx’s world review of the Xone:24C and Xone:K3 from Allen & Heath on DJcity TV. Join DJcity for only $10. The post In the XONE! Johnny Gorillas has built a sound that moves between two different creative spaces. His solo work focuses on lo-fi textures and sample-based grooves, while his project mono sky leans toward cinematic and atmospheric production. The two projects may sound separate, but they come from the same technical foundation. For Johnny, that foundation is Massive. The synth became his main tool for learning how oscillators, filters, and modulation interact. Over time, this knowledge shaped how he builds tone, rhythm, and movement across any instrument he uses. Massive gave him structure and a way to create freely without guessing. Jump to these sections: How Massive built Johnny Gorillas’ foundation Developing habits from early synthesis...

This week on @RoadPodcast, the crew sits down with @Moochie, @DJSvpply, @Snipsmusic, and @KBrissy to talk about @RecordRoom and vinyl parties. The episode begins with Crooked reflecting on his first time attending Record Room and what immediately stood out (03:20), before the crew breaks down why vinyl sets earn more trust from audiences, from the visual curiosity of watching a DJ work to the difference between a DJ and a vinyl selector mindset (12:40). They explore why letting songs play longer works better in today’s shortened attention economy , the origins of Record Room and NYC’s Sway era, and the early days of Suede, including the choice to identify as vinyl DJs in 2025 (18:50). The conversation dives into why R&B sounds so good...

DJ effects are more than just tools for decoration – they are essential instruments for shaping the energy and flow of a performance. At their best, effects allow you to add your own sonic signature to a track, turning a standard transition into a memorable moment on the dancefloor. Understanding DJ effects in greater detail gives you the power to manipulate tension and release with precision. Whether you’re using a subtle high-pass filter to blend two basslines without clashing, or an aggressive “stutter” to signal an upcoming drop, effects help you communicate your creative intent to the audience. Learning the “how” and “why” behind these tools means you can move beyond random experimentation and start making intentional choices that...
The DJM-V10 from Pioneer DJ took their club mixers in a new direction, but garnered some real fans – including Mojaxx. Now, AlphaTheta have release the DJM-V5, which is effectively a smaller, more affordable version of the V10, with three channels. It includes lots of the features found on the original, as well as some new ones, but there’s one big omission which could potentially limit it’s appeal to different types of DJs. Mojaxx gives it a full review on the new episode of Beatsource Tech. Check out the Mojaxx’s review of the DJM-V5 from AlphaTheta on DJcity TV. Join DJcity for only $10. Rane have seen huge success with their recent controller releases – the FOUR, the PERFOMER, and the ONE MKII. But they all have one thing in common – they are just controllers. SHDWCSTRS sits somewhere between hip hop and electronic music, pulling from both without fully landing in either world. His sound leans heavily on 808s, dark synths, and atmosphere, with tracks that feel more like late-night moods than polished club records. There is a rawness to his music that feels rooted in real life rather than aesthetics. The tracks are heavy, sometimes chaotic, and intentionally a bit unresolved. Instead of chasing big drops or clean moments, the rising artist lets tension hang, which gives the music its weight and keeps it feeling honest. That approach comes through clearly on “ALT/GEN,” a project that blends hip hop attitude with infectious dance music energy. It feels built for after-hours listening, tapping...
John Hayes’ new album Closer is the sound of forward motion forged in a moment of forced stillness. Long known for his piano driven and ambient work, the Denver based producer makes a decisive leap into immersive electronic territory with a record that feels both deeply personal and quietly powerful. Written largely during recovery from a serious ski injury that left Hayes unable to walk for months, Closer channels an unspoken tension between restlessness and restraint. That internal push shows up in the music through warm, driving rhythms, patient builds, and emotional release that never feels rushed or overstated. Rather than chasing peak moments, Hayes lets each track unfold naturally, trusting atmosphere and momentum to do the...
