The legendary @Cutso joins the ROAD Podcast to break down the DNA of the Bay Area scene, the evolution of turntablism, and the reality of balancing a high-level DJ career with a corporate tech job. We dive into his viral “ROAD Talk” interview from NAMM 2026 (2:55), where he addresses the entitlement of new DJs and a social media culture that causes artists to focus on the wrong metrics. Cutso reflects on the “Relationship Economy” and why you cannot get booked without being in the room, while tracing his roots back to the 90s, and the “quick mixing” style that defined the Bay (8:23). He recounts the early influence of MC Hammer and the reverence for D-Styles mixtapes, comparing them to baseball trading cards for the Hip Hop community...
For some producers, a track is a sequence of notes; for Ex.sses, Hezen, and Ikävä Pii, it is a living, breathing environment. Drawing from eclectic backgrounds in fine art, professional dance, and film, these three artists treat the DAW as a canvas for sonic masterpieces. In this deep dive, we hear directly from the artists on how they use the tools within Komplete 26 to bridge the gap between abstract textures and visceral, physical energy. Discover Komplete 26 How they started: from fine art to the dancefloor How does an artist’s background shift the way they hear a blank project? For this group, the journey into production began far away from the traditional recording studio. Ex.sses: “I started out from a fine art background...

Tim McEwan of The Midnight approaches production like a craftsman, balancing the precision of modern software with the texture of older recording techniques. For Syndicate, his most ambitious project yet, he built a workflow that connects classic warmth to contemporary punch. Plugin Alliance tools became a central part of that process, shaping the sound of the drums, bass, and stereo field while keeping the mixes open and musical. Across seventeen tracks, Syndicate channels the drama of analog synths and cinematic arrangements through digital precision. McEwan’s use of compressors, enhancers, and tape-style saturation gave each track its own personality while keeping the entire album cohesive. The result is a collection that feels...

The use of pixel tubes as an eye-candy lighting effect is one of the big trends in the mobile, wedding, and private event DJ scenes at the moment. German manufacturer Ape Labs has their own take on the idea – the Neon Pix. Despite the brand’s reputation for having high quality, but pricey fixtures, the Neon Pix are, in fact, one of the more affordable options on the market, so on the new episode of Beatport Tech, Mojaxx takes a look to see how they stack up against the competition. Learn more about the Neon Pix: Ape Labs USA: https://apelabsusa.com/ Ape Labs EU: https://apelabs.com Ape Labs UK: https://apelabsuk.com/ Check out Mojaxx’s review of the Neon Pix from Ape Lab on DJcity TV. Number 3 of the seasonal Bonk Wave releases is here, and it’s a biggy. This time the community collected 54 tracks in total, spread over 3 albums. The amount of tracks submitted are starting to make us think we’ll have to come up with some other way of managing this. At some point, that’s just too much music to master, review, split up over albums, etc. But I’m sure we’ll figure something out. The first two albums are the regular free-form submissions so to speak. The 3rd album contains the sample challenge tracks, where everyone joining in made a track from a fixed set of samples. There’s a banjo sample in this one. A frigging banjo sample. I mean, how does a self-respecting electronic musician incorporate a banjo in his tunes? Well...

David Mayer’s latest single “News Flash” marks both a creative and emotional milestone. Released through SONARA, the label he co-founded, the track captures a moment of transition between seasons and ideas. Written during the months when SONARA was moving from vision to reality, “News Flash” reflects that sense of movement through melody, tone, and cultural interplay. The record opens around a distinctive Eastern-leaning lead that defines its atmosphere. Mayer built the entire track around that sound, which originated as a manipulated sample within Kontakt. The tone carries the warmth and grit of a real performance, while its phrasing lends an air of tension and release that anchors the arrangement. Mayer’s production choices reflect...

London-based producer and Fabric resident Hardt Antoine built his new single “Let Me Go” around a sense of movement and control. Released on Kompakt, the record carries a focused rhythmic core that feels both deliberate and spontaneous. For Antoine, the secret lies in how quickly he can move from idea to execution. Maschine plays a key role in that process, allowing him to shape samples, test grooves, and build emotion through rhythm rather than polish. His approach to production favors limitation and instinct. The fewer steps between an idea and its expression, the better the track tends to flow. Maschine gives him that speed, functioning as a direct connection between thought and sound. It keeps the workflow tactile, encourages...
