    Update 18

84 days feels like 84 years
especially when your memory all but disappears.
He had a hard time doing simple math,
but 2 days later he was on the right path.
A few days after and I laid a pillowcase on his bed and the next thing I know, he was making a turban for his head.
Therapy is trying to help him walk without pressure but as you can see, he needs a refresher.
He still gets frustrated and he wants to move
but his progress daily continues to improve.
He did well today with simple letters,
and with weather like this, it helps to get better.
He can't get into a rehab facility, because we're waiting on his Medicaid and weight bearing stability.
Oct. 31st and we pray something comes through,
He needs to get out of this hospital so his life has a better view.

    Update 19

The hospital is wanting to discharge Michael but there is nowhere to care for him, so they want to send him to a shelter. Hope this gets sorted for his and his family's sake.

Mission Hospitals' social worker wants to discharge my brother right now and said they will send him to a shelter.
He has suffered a severe TBI, is not cleared to be walking for more than 50lbs of pressure in his left leg. He has a brain injury so he doesn't know exactly how to translate that. Neither do I. The resident PA said, "since he can eat, and get himself to the bathroom, he doesn't meet the criteria to be here".
We understand that. We expressed that sending him to my grandmother's house would be an unsafe environment because he cannot be left alone and I cannot care for my grandmother and him at the same time.
When we expressed to the social worker that he can't be left alone, her response was,
" hire a babysitter ". You don't just hire a babysitter for a patient that can't walk and that has a brain injury.
The resident PA also told us,"he doesn't need rehab". 🤯
We are awaiting his medicaid to be approved so he can go into a rehab facility, then transfer to a long term facility so that he can flourish with others that have the same needs.
He cannot prepare meals, take his own meds, or physically navigate himself in the right direction. He needs professional, medical care.
We are at a loss at how to proceed with this urgency to discharge him.
We called Adult Protective Services to intervene and that's when the hospital gave us 24 hours to give them an address to discharge.
If anyone knows anyone with experience in this and what his rights are to help him get to the place he needs, we would would be forever grateful.

It sounds like some of the staff at that hospital are right cunts!

    Update 20

Michael has been moved to his Grandmother's house while they wait for a a rehab/living facility. Here's hoping .....

We hope this story helps other families that may find themselves in a similar situation.
After a tree fell on him on his way to work on Aug. 4th that left him with frontal lobe brain injury, broken pelvis, broken femur, 2 brain bleeds, blood clots, a csf leak and facial fractures, we are now awaiting a rehab facility to help him progress even further.
1️⃣ He wasn't supposed to make it.
2️⃣ Neuro doc stated " he'll never be more than this, consider hospice".
    We prepared for his funeral.
3️⃣ he speaks, "hi" for the first time.
4️⃣ craniotomy surgery because my sister suspected csf leak and it's positive 2.5 weeks after we voice concern.
    5️⃣ He's leaving after 98 days.
    6️⃣ At grandma's house.
What did Mission and surgeons do for him?
They saved his life, they performed surgeries to save him from his injuries.
They fed him, provided medication, and rooms for rest. We don't discount those specific actions. It's the series of unfortunate events that we were faced with throughout this experience that we have discord with.
We are his only voice to get him the help and life care he needs.

    Update 21

    A setback ...

    Here we go again.
We desperately pleaded with caseworker, social worker and PA that we felt he needed a medical facility to be discharged to but they refused to hear us.
He was just transported by ambulance to ER.
Developed involuntary movements, could no longer stand on his own and trying to talk sounded like his words are being mixed in a blender. He had a seizure during transit.
    He's being re-admitted.
