Stem Extraction Tools is a beta LiteLABS feature for separating uploaded audio into individual stems. It is designed for producers, remixers, DJs, musicians and learners who want to study, remix, rebuild or practise with parts of a track.
This tool is experimental, so results can vary depending on the original recording, mix quality and instrumentation.
How it works
- Choose an audio file.
- Select your output format.
- Create the stem pack.
- Download the ZIP once processing is complete.
Input: MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A / MP4 audio
Output: FLAC or MP3
FLAC gives larger files with the best quality. MP3 gives smaller files that are easier to store or share.
Generated stems
Stem packs may include:
- Vocals
- Drums
- Bass
- Guitar
- Piano / Keys
- Synths / Strings / Other
- Clean Instrumental
Credits and queue
Processing costs credits depending on your account/usergroup settings.
Only one job can run at a time while the tool is in beta. If another track is already processing, the widget may show the queue as busy until the current job finishes.
The processing queue may take up to 5 minutes before the worker begins. This does not mean the tool is stuck.
Please leave the page open and allow it time to start processing.
Important notes
- Please only upload music you own, control, have permission to use, or are legally allowed to study or transform.
- Stem separation is not perfect. Some bleed between stems is normal.
- Drum stems are currently performing very well in testing.
- Bass quality can vary depending on the source track.
- Live recordings may include audience or room noise in some stems.
- The “Other / Synths / Strings” stem can sometimes contain bleed from drums, guitar or other instruments.
Stem Extraction Tools is currently in beta and will continue to improve as more tracks are tested.
Update notes
v2.0
- Major upgrade to the core separation engine.
- Improved isolation of vocals, drums, bass, guitar, piano and other instrumentation.
- Cleaner instrumental exports with stronger vocal removal.
- Separate backing-vocal extraction where suitable.
- Better preservation of transients, stereo detail and low-frequency information.
- FLAC stem packs for lossless downloads.
- Faster final pack preparation and validation.
- Cleaner filenames and a simplified download pack.
- Internal extraction methods and model information are no longer displayed publicly.
Quality improvements
The new engine has been tested across rock, pop and instrument-heavy material, with particularly strong improvements to:- drum clarity and impact;
- bass definition;
- guitar separation;
- piano and keyboard recovery;
- lead-vocal isolation.
Still in development
We are continuing to develop intelligent track analysis that can identify the instruments present before extraction, detect potentially missing stems and automatically retry difficult parts of a track using alternative processing routes.Results will continue to improve as these systems are tested and introduced.
